So um. Not really getting back into the blogging thing. Life is crazy - in a mostly good way - and I don't have much time for crafting. I'm just looking for a place to save this. For like. Forever. Because that is THE Garth Brooks talking to ME. Still in awe that this guy spotted my sign (thanks in part to my amazing luck at scoring seventh row seats!) in the crowd of thousands. And read it. And asked me my name and how I was doing. And then SANG MY REQUEST. Just unreal. Thanks also internet for allowing me to find this random dude on instagram who happened to catch part of the chat and song on video. I was so in the moment in never even occurred to me to grab my phone. What an amazing experience I will never forget!
I've been blogging in this space since 2007 - hard to believe it's been that long! But my blogging has become more and more sporadic lately, so I think it's time to take a break. The existing content won't be going anywhere, and I may occasionally make a random post, but I think for now I'll take the summer off. I have been distracted by lots of "stuff of life" lately, and haven't had much time to create, so maybe this will give me some chance to refuel my creativity. Thanks for understanding and enjoy your summer!

Michelle L. http://www.blogger.com/profile/05666957165629527703noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5357335599521760671.post-5916565050451023102013-05-05T16:16:00.001-07:002013-05-05T16:23:23.484-07:00National scrapbook day no 2Another quick post from my phone - thus is a scrap page I made for one of Echo Park's NSD challenges. This challenge wast use 10 of something on your layout. I used 10 stickers - not counting the alpha - from the Country Drive collection. I also used papers and a journaling block from that collection. I am working on trying to use up some of my older collections, so this was good for that! Thanks for the inspiration.

<div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Michelle L. http://www.blogger.com/profile/05666957165629527703noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5357335599521760671.post-21728152846730473082013-05-05T16:07:00.001-07:002013-05-05T16:07:24.087-07:00National Scrapbook Day No 1My computer's wounded and in the shop so I am attempting to blog from my phone so I share a couple projects I made for National Scrapbook Day, which happened to be Saturday. Since I'm more card maker than scrapbooker, I love that Echo Park kicked things off with a card challenge. I used pieces from the Summer Days and Country Drive collections to make this card, which showcases one of my favorite things about summer - flowers!

<div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Michelle L. http://www.blogger.com/profile/05666957165629527703noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5357335599521760671.post-23532711411640779032013-04-07T10:21:00.004-07:002013-04-07T10:21:56.958-07:00TCP Tuesday: Flowers

Hello and happy Sunday! This month's TCP Tuesday challenge is to make flowers the focal point of your card. I decided to create a background panel using all the little daisy stamps that came along with some of my favorite TCP stamps. I stamped the images, then colored them with Copic markers. I added a simple TCP sentiment on a banner with a button and seam binding to finish it off. It's also a small card, just 3.5 by 5 inches. I like that size for a change of pace. Plus, less coloring! :)

On a side note, I am among many bloggers and blog readers disappointed to hear that Google is ending its Google Reader service in a few months. (I'm also a fan of iGoogle, which is also going away!) I am trying out Feedly now. Would love to hear what you're using for a reader and if there are any tips or tricks for using Feedly. Thanks!

That's all for me today. Thanks for stopping by.
Happy Easter! I hope you're having a wonderful day. I have probably mentioned this before, but one of the reason I love Easter is because I love bunnies. I have for years. I have a collection of them - some stuffed and several ceramic or decorative bunnies. When March 1 arrives, I pull out the Easter decor and all the bunnies and they just make me smile! That's one reason I collect these adorable bunny stamps from The Cat's Pajamas. I mean, who could resist those ears? :)
Today's card is a soft one featuring pastel papers from the Teresa Collins Sweet Afternoon collection. I also paper-pieced Mr. Bun in a soft gray pattern from the collection, then colored his nose pink. The image is colored with Copics and I added a touch of Stickles to the eggs for sparkle. A simple button and ribbon tie finish off the card.
Today I have for you one of the Easter cards I made this year. It was inspired by a recent challenge on Splitcoast to use a nest and/or eggs in your design. This might be a little un-traditional, but it met the challenge. This is a challenging image for my limited coloring skills, but I quite like how it turned out. I kept the rest of the card simple to better showcase the lovely image. The papers are from We R Memory Keepers; I'm trying to use up the leftovers from last year! I hope you're having a wonderful weekend. If you're celebrating, I hope the festivities involve family, friends and fun.
One of the recent TCP challenges was an inspiration challenge that featured some modern patterns and a color scheme of bright yellow, shades of gray and black. I have been trying to get Easter cards made with whatever challenges I can, so I added a challenge for myself to make an Easter card from that inspiration. I picked out some patterned papers from the Echo Park Style Essentials collection that had some modern feel, then paired them with a gray bunny in a yellow basket. I did add a couple of very light touches of pink and aqua for the eggs and for the bunny's nose. Hopefully it works!
Hello there! Today is the Ides of March and also my Birthday! Today's post was inspired by my plans for the evening. If you haven't figured it out, I intend to be enjoying one or several umbrella drinks as I mark the passing of another year. Some good friends are going to join me - and don't worry, none of us are driving! These little 3x3 cards were for a recent challenge on Splitcoast. The team at Taylored Expressions asked folks to make a set of mini cards. I pulled out some fun Imaginisce papers and my TE Chillax set and got to work. This will make great enclosures for gifts, I think.
Thanks for stopping by! Hope you have a fabulous day. I know I will!
I made this card for a recent challenge from My Favorite Things. The challenge was an encouragement. This Pure Innocence girl is such a cutie, and a box of love sure seems encouraging, so this seemed like a good choice. I paired the image with papers from Bella Blvd. I love these papers - such fun patterns and colors, especially that chevron. I have almost used them up which is both great - because I have a habit of cutting into a sheet of paper and then never using the rest - and sad, because I will miss these papers when they are gone! The sentiment is stamped on an MFT label die. I debated whether to stamp in black or blue - the image is stamped in black, then colored, but the papers are navy. I think I should have gone with navy! I also added a touch of Stickles to the little girl's shoes, dress and the heart in her hair.
That's all for me today. thanks for stopping by!
Hello and happy Tuesday! Seems fitting to share my card for this month's TCP Tuesday challenge toady. Alma came up with a good one - use just two layers, plus a base; just one patterned paper; and neutrals plus one color. I made mine trickier by limiting my stamp choices to Easter images, since I need to get those cards made. I went with a kraft base and coral as my color - I did use a few different shades (wink!) to color the image. I think the bun turned out pretty cute, though! I kept the embellishment pretty simple since the card design overall was pretty simple. Thanks for stopping by today!
Supplies:
This is one of my recent favorite cards. It's pretty simple, but I love how it turned out. I took a large white panel, masked off a strip using Eclipse tape (what did I ever do before that stuff? I get mine at Ellen Hutson's shop). Then I sponged shades of Memento ink, including nautical blue, grey flannel and bahama blue. After removing the tape, I stamped the silhouette in black and added the pearls. The coordinating label die and image were stamped and cut, I added a touch of color with Copic markers, stamped the sentiment and popped the whole thing up on foam dots.
That's all for me today. Thanks for stopping by!
This is a quick, simple card I made for one of the recent VSN challenge. The challenge was to feature a lady bug somewhere on your card. I pulled out an old favorite SU stamp set for this one, colored the image with Copics and added a touch of distress stickles to the centers of the flowers. The patterned paper is from Echo Park's Country Drive collection. I finished this 3.5 by 5 inch card with a rounded corner, a bit of ribbon and a button. Thanks for stopping by.
I had a chance to make a few cards last weekend for the Virtual Stamp Night on Splitcoast. The challenge for this card was to use black a and a bright color as your main colors. What a great excuse to build a card around this Technique Tuesday sentiment. I cut a rectangle as my main image panel, then colored it with shades of yellow Copics to get a gradient effect (Note to self: buy more shades of yellow markers!) When it was good and dry, I stamped the sentiment, then adhered the panel to a black base. The second yellow layer is embossed with a Cuttlebug embossing folder - love this new one that looks like wallpaper. I also colored a little sun image and used circle punches to cut it out and layer it. A fun little bow out of gingham finishes the card off. Thanks for stopping by today. Hope your day is full of sunshine!

Splitcoaststampers has been hosting a "Love Fest" for its member companies, which means 10 days of fun challenges. I've been playing along in an effort o rebuild my stash of cards, which had been kind of depleted recently. This challenge was as a sketch challenge from Sweet and Sassy Stamps. I don't have any of their stamps so I pulled out some Taylored Expressions stamps instead. Thankful is one of my favorite TE sets; it was definitely a good purchase for me! I thought the image paired well with the Autumn Spice DP from Lily Bee. The image is colored with Copics and I added a touch of brown Distress Stickles in the flower centers. Thanks for stopping by today.
Good Saturday morning! I don't know about you, but I'm glad the weekend is here. I have big plans to stay home and craft this weekend. I need a little stampy therapy! I have been doing some stamping since last I posted; this card is for this month's TCP Tuesday challenge. The goal was to use TCP stamps or dies in a new way. I decided to use the pompom die to make grass. I thought it would be a fun texture and give my card a bit of a dimension. What do you think? I kept the rest of the card pretty simple, and wrestled for awhile with a layout before finally just turning my image on a slight angle. I've been doing that a lot lately! Not sure why I like it that way, but I do!
Thanks for stopping by today. Have a great weekend!
Happy Valentine's Day! I didn't get many Valentines made this year, but I did get this one done. I recently ordered a few things from Ellen Hutson; usually I find a pretty bit of ribbon in my box as a thank you, but this time, I opened my box to find a stack of beautiful doilies. So that's what inspired this card. I started by masking off a bunch of the white cardstock, then lightly stamped a script stamp before sponging shades of pink over it. Then I stamped the sentiment in a darker pink. I used the smallest doily as a base for a little heart collage. The lightest pink heart has stickles on the polka dots for a bit of sparkle. It's pretty clean and simple, but I kind of like it that way!
Hope your day is lovely! Thanks for stopping by.
Today I have a fun non-card project for you. A close friend of mine recently celebrated the big 40 and I couldn't let that go without a fun little project. I had seen something similar on pinterest and took the idea and ran with it. I used a small metal pail I picked up at JoAnn's as my base, added a styrofoam ball and built an "arrangement" of suckers in the styrofoam. It took about 100 suckers to fill this up, and it was pretty heavy by the end!

I printed the sentiments - front and back - on my computer and used nestabilities to cut them out and layer them on a skewer. I added a bow and voila! My friend lives in another state, so I had to mail this off to her. Hopefully it arrived in one piece!
Hello and happy Friday! Today's card is another experiment in masking fluid, sponges and masking. I used the nestability die as a mask while I stamped, sponged and stamped some more using Hero Arts script stamps and SU's Upsy Daisy. I couldn't figure out where to put a sentiment, so I left the front blank. The rest of the design is pretty clean so the image can be the focal point.
A friend at work was having a birthday so I put together this card for her. She likes funky and modern stuff, so I chose this fun Bella Blvd paper for her. She's also as a cat person - she has three of them, including a crazy Bengal cat! - so I picked Fluffles out for her. The sentiment is from The Cat's Pajamas. I'm trying to come up with some new layouts, so this is one of my new experiments. It's still a pretty clean and simple card, but I like it that way, and she seemed to, too! That's all for me today. Thanks for stopping by.
Hello and happy Wednesday! Today I have another card from last weekend's VSN event on Splitcoast. The challenge was to use a "punny" saying with a bird or bee image. Since I need to make a couple of kid Valentines, this image and sentiment from an old SU set seemed perfect. I paired the image with some fun jungle leaf papers from DCWV. A button, ribbon, twine embellishment finishes the card off. Thanks for stopping by today!
I had a chance to play in some of the VSN challenges on Splitcoast over the weekend; one of the challenges called for using hexagons, and if possible, a bee. I had this fun image in my stash - it was a RAK several years ago from a fellow stamper. I thought it paired perfectly with this honeycomb paper from Echo Park Paper Co. I colored the image with Copics but kept the rest of the design pretty clean and simple. I did play around for quite awhile with the sentiment placement before settling on this one! Hope it works. Thanks for stopping by!
Today's my mom's birthday - Happy birthday, Mom! This is the card I made for her. Since I sent it in a box with her gift, I didn't have to worry about it getting squished in the mail. I used the adorable "It's in the Bag" stamps and coordinating dies from Taylored Expressions for this card. I am also using up some of the Cosmo Cricket DeLovely cardstock I've had in my stash for-EVER! My mom loves bright colors, especially pink, so this is well-suited to her. I cut a strip of tissue to fill the bag with and added some stickles to the rose for a bit of bling (though looking at the picture now, I guess I did that last part AFTER photographing!) The rest of the embellishment was simple, just a bit of ribbon and a button. Hope she liked it!
I needed a boy birthday card recently - little boys, well, and frankly, big boys, too, are my biggest card-making challenge! I just want to add ribbons and buttons and bling to everything and they don't really go with dinosaurs and cars and rockets! :) Anyway, I pulled out my Gina K Designs dinosaur stamps and got to work using them and some fun jungle papers from DCWV. The papers inspired the color scheme and the dino scene was colored with Copics. I am a little annoyed that the dino's hat is up off his head, especially since I used my stamp-a-ma-jig to determine the placement! But the kid in question is six, so I don't think he'll mind! That's all for me today. Happy Wednesday and thanks for stopping by.
Today I have another of the sympathy cards I made recently when I had out my sponges, masking fluid and Eclipse tape. This one has a lot lighter touch of masking fluid, but heavier sponging. The leaf images are from an old Unity Stamp Co set and the sentiment is from The Cat's Pajamas Simply Said sentiment collection. I kept the embellishment minimal, just a button and bit of taffeta ribbon. I am sad that I am now out of gray SU taffeta ribbon. I love that stuff. I wonder if they still make it? Not that I need any more ribbon. I have ribbon coming out my ears. In fact, I might need a ribbon intervention! :) Anyway, that's all for me today. Thanks for stopping by.
